As you may know, I love to travel. And there’s one city I’ll always, always return: New York. (Actually plotting how we can live between NYC + CDMX.) It almost feels like a second home at this point. Growing up in Connecticut and having my whole family still based in the northeast makes me feel intrinsically tied to NYC. But it’s so much more than that. It’s a city I’ve loved since the first time I visited when I was 6-years-old. I even wrote and illustrated a book in first grade all about my first visit. My parents still have the spiral-bound book at their house.
There’s an energy in NYC that’s like no other city in the world. It makes me feel alive in a very particular kind of way. I’ve spent a lot of time there over the years, and it’s a place that always has something new to offer. I’ve connected with SO many amazing creative people living in NYC that inspire me in all kinds of ways. Every time I leave, I feel creatively reinvigorated. And I’m always looking forward to my next visit.
This most recent trip was extra special because I got to show Asse, my boyfriend, around for his first time. It was fun to do some of the touristy things I haven’t done in years and to see the city with new eyes through experiencing it with someone I love. We really packed it in. Averaged about 20,000 steps a day and really did it all! I love how you can just walk and walk and walk in New York and not really even notice you’ve been walking for literal miles.
NYC is constantly changing. This guide is a very small sampling of what the city has to offer. I tried to list places I frequently visit and specifically visited this June. I’ll likely put out more NYC lists in the future, but this is a great starting place for your trip - 40 of my favorite places to eat, shop and see! I gave pizza and soft serve their own categories because honestly eating those two things is how I spend a lot of my time in New York. You really can’t get better pizza or soft serve anywhere else in the world.
If you have other places you love in the city, please leave a comment with your recs!
